Like her late sister, Sunshine, Susie also  returned to the family that fostered her when she retired from racing.  John & Diane have never avoided taking senior greyhounds into their home and life.  Time may seem short when the greyhounds have reached double-digits, nonetheless John & Diane find it extremely fulfilling living with senior greyhounds.

Susie lives with three other greyhounds, Ted, Homer, Vega and a greyhound mix Abbie.   John & Diane took 7 year old Abbie into their home last year, she is on medication for epilepsy.  Homer was  diagnosed with cancer but is doing great.

Susie is a bit to thin for her size so Diane has been trying to get her to eat more.  Susie has other ideas, at 12 years old Susie knows exactly what she likes and wants!  After struggling to get Susie to eat Diane learned that Susie was fed Pedigree at her previous home.   To do a taste test Diane put a put a bowl of  Purina One and a bowl of Pedigree in front of Susie—she enthusiastically  gobbled down the Pedigree.     Susie isn’t so picky about treats, she eats those without complaint whenever they are offered.

In the picture above you will notice that Susie has her back leg shaved.  She had a hemangiopericytoma removed from that area two weeks ago.  It was large and required 12 stitches to close the incision.  It has been a trying time for both Susie and her owners because the sutures didn’t hold.  Trips to both the Emergency clinic and her regular vet to have the area re-sutured twice and a drain put in kept them on the road.  Being on the leg and so large it bothers Susie so she wants to lick the area—to keep her from doing this she has to wear a muzzle.

When Susie arrived she found a spot she preferred next to the bed so Diane gave her a bunch of soft blankets to nest with.  Looks like a very comfy spot to rest the ol’ achy body, doesn’t it?

As her surgery site heals and Susie begins to feel better John & Diane look forward to watching this lady come out of her shell even more than she has to this point.  Susie is a sweet, loving greyhound that has found the perfect family to live the rest of her years with.
